Cebu’s celebration of World Fair Trade Day will feature “Run for Green Life 2011″ that will be staged at the UC Banilad Grounds on May 29, Sunday.

Together with leisure biking, the Run banners 3k, 6k and 15k distances that will feature runners and bikers from Cebu and nearby provinces and cities.

WFTD activities in Cebu are jointly organized by the Southern Partners and Fair Trade Center, The Fair Trade Shop Cebu and the Cebu Fair Trade Network.

The Fair Trade Shops are inviting everyone to be green-minded and buy Fair Trade gifts for their loved ones this Valentine season.

Fair Trade products (bags, scarves, fashion accessories, etc) were showcased in the Fair Trade Eco Fashion Show. Volunteers from the Global Exchange Team and SETEM became ramp models for the show.

The Fair Trade Shop Cebu and the Global Xchange Team 107 are choosing to be FAIR.

This August, their unified statement is- “I want to be FAIR, do you?”

The Fair Trade Shop Cebu will be celebrating its first year anniversary this coming August 8. As part of the celebration, the shop will be launching the “I want to be FAIR” campaign.

The campaign aims to inform and to mobilize the public about the Fair Trade advocacy and how it helps in eradicating social inequalities especially in business and trade.

The full campaign ads as well as the campaign launch will all happen this August 8 at The Fair Trade Shop Cebu office Room 102 Jose Martinez Building, Osmena Boulevard, Cebu City. A big product sale will also take place in the said event.

2nd Prize winning entry

The decorations were made out of recycled materials, produced by the Wo-men’s of Quijano – a foundation providing scholarships to deserving urban poor students and provide livelihood work for the parents.  Other elements to the decorations were crazy-weave made by fair trade group Gabay sa Bagong Pag-asa ng Napo.

It was the first time The Fair Trade Shop, Cebu joined the competition.  Ronald Lagazo, the Advocate of Philippine Fair Trade, Inc (APFTI)’s area coordinator says: “This prize is heartwarming, as it shows that Cebuanos appreciate and value the skill and resourcefulness that goes into these environmentally-friendly and fair trade decorations.”

Fair Trade products are made by hand with a smile and with love by artisans and food producers across the Philippines.  Following 10 fair trade principles, you can be sure that the gift you are buying has the same loving vibes as the love you share for your valentine.

Fair Trade products are friendly for the environment, ensure workers are paid a fair wage and have safe working conditions.
